TeMo (tensegrity-modular) investigates how ‘product longevity’ can be achieved through modular design. Connective components are designed up-front for multiple lives rather than single use, sharing functional attributes that are open for reinterpretation and encourage end-users to incorporate waste from multiple waste streams.

The act of bricolage requires makers to account for disparate dimensional attributes, particularly when sourcing single parts from general waste. The 3D printed corner blocks of the TeMo have been designed to accommodate multi-material frame components from 6mm - 25mm in section. In this case, the main frame components were sourced from discarded aluminium tube stock and domestic waste, strung into a tensegrity mesh with stainless steel braided wire and topped with a discarded glass shower screen. This production system allows shape variation by lengthening and/or shortening the frame components and wire, allowing overall dimensions to be determined by the end user and modified over time to suit changing needs.
